Ayfer Tunç was born in 1964, Adapazarı. She studied Political Science at Istanbul University. In 1989 she won the Yunus Nadi Short Story Award with her story Saklı. After serving as the editor-in-chief at Yapı Kredi Publishing between 1999 and 2004, she became a full time writer. In addition to her novels and short story collections, she was also a scriptwriter for television dramas. Her books have been translated into many languages. Annemin Uyurgezer Geceleri, which tells the story of loneliness passed down through generations, was published in 2025.
